During Aste Nagusia…

🚗 Avoid accessing the paid car parks in the historic centre as many will have limited access or will not be available, depending on the schedule.

🚇 A good option is to leave your vehicle in one of the park-and-ride car parks along the metro line located in the metro stations of Leioa, Etxebarri and Ansio (BEC); from there you can easily access the city by metro and you will have a discounted rate.

🦘🎉 You are about to discover our wonderful city and, perhaps you don’t know it yet, but you are going to visit it at a very special time for the people of Bilbao, the Aste Nagusia. We have prepared a bit of practical information for you to prepare your experience.

🎉 What is Aste Nagusia?

Aste Nagusia, or Semana Grande de Bilbao, is one of the best festivals in the world (or the best). In the third week of August, Mari Jaia makes a gap in her busy schedule, to appear in the Botxo, and kick off in the Arriaga Theatre with the famous Txupinazo.
It is a very special moment for all the people of Bilbao, as it is our time to enjoy this revelry in which Kalimotxo, music and good vibes permeate the streets of the capital of the universe.

Don’t worry, the most important museums and buildings are still open. However, you will find the Arenal and Arriaga areas full of txoznas (bars set up for parties) where crowds of people gather. The Casco Viejo is also an important meeting point during fiestas and there are more people than usual.

Practical tips:

  • Get around by public transport or walking. During these days the city is transformed and it is very difficult to get around by car, so we recommend that you leave it parked and look for alternative means of mobility.
  • After 2pm it is free to park in the street, but make sure you don’t leave your car in an area where an event or parade is planned.
  • Restaurants in the more touristy areas tend to have availability problems, so don’t forget to book your table in advanc

Remember that

⌚ It is essential to arrive 10 minutes earlier. If you arrive late your booking may be cancelled.

⛔️ Groups of more than 6 adults and children are not allowed. Split group bookings will be cancelled at the meeting point. See conditions.

🚫 Drinking alcohol is not allowed during the visit.

📣 A free tour is a tour at a free price (not free), conducted by qualified professionals in the development of their profession. This gives you the opportunity to decide how much you want to pay based on your level of satisfaction.
