🚗 Parking in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can be a bit tricky, especially in central and touristic areas such as Vegueta, Triana or Playa de Las Canteras, where the demand for parking is high. However, there are several options to find parking efficiently. Here are some recommendations:

🅿️ Public or paid parking (recommended)

If you prefer to avoid the stress of looking for street parking, I suggest opting for paid public car parks, which are safe and relatively affordable:

  • Parking  MERCADO DE VEGUETA: central parking (7 minutes from our meeting point) and reasonable rates.
  • Parking 1º DE MAYOcentrally located (7min from our meeting point) Full day 9€. Open 24h 7 days a week. Ample spaces. Electric charging.

These car parking facilities usually have hourly rates and some offer flat rates for longer stays.

⏱️🔵 Zonas ORA (Parking regulation)

In some areas of the city, especially in the city centre and commercial areas, on-street parking is regulated by the ORA zone (pay for parking):

  • Blue Zone: This is a pay-by-the-hour zone and is usually in areas with high demand, such as Vegueta, Triana, Mesa y López or Las Canteras. Normally, the maximum time you can park is 2 hours, and you will have to pay at the parking meters located on the pavements or through mobile apps.
  • Opening hours: The opening hours of the ORA zone are usually Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 20:00, and Saturdays from 9:00 to 13:00. Outside these hours, parking is usually free.
  • Mobile apps: You can use apps such as Telpark or Easypark to manage your parking payment conveniently.

🛟 Free parking

If you prefer to avoid the cost of paid parking or ORA zones, here are some suggestions of areas where it is usually easier to find free parking:

  • Alfredo Kraus Auditorium area: In the streets around the auditorium, at the end of Las Canteras Beach, you can sometimes find free parking. However, on days with events, it can be more difficult.
  • Avenida Marítima: In some areas along Avenida Marítima, in the vicinity of the port, you can find free parking, although it is an area with high demand.
  • Around the Miller Bajo industrial area: On the outskirts of the centre, you can park for free and then walk or take public transport to the centre.
  • Siete Palmas: This is a neighbourhood a bit far from the centre but with good public transport connections. It is easier to find parking here and then you can get around by guagua (bus).

💬 Additional tips

  • Avoid rush hour: Try to park outside peak hours (8:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 20:00), when traffic is heaviest and parking spaces are harder to find.
  • Consider public transport: If you don’t mind leaving your car on the outskirts, you can take advantage of the areas with free parking and then take public transport. Guaguas (buses) are frequent and can easily take you to the centre.
  • Plan ahead: If you have to park in the centre at peak times or during important events (such as Carnival), it is advisable to arrive well in advance, as demand for parking soars.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a vibrant city, full of culture, history, beaches and fabulous gastronomy.

Here are some tips on what to see and do:

🌇 Vegueta (the old town)

This is the historic quarter of the city, where the history of Las Palmas began. Walking through its cobbled streets is a pleasure. Highlights:

  • Catedral de Santa Ana: This impressive cathedral dates back to the 15th century and is one of the city’s most emblematic monuments. You can climb its tower for spectacular views of the city.
  • Columbus House: Museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus and his passage through the city on his voyage to the New World. It is a beautiful building and the museum itself is very interesting.
  • Plaza de Santa Ana: Right in front of the cathedral, surrounded by historic buildings and the famous bronze dog statues.

🏖 Las Canteras Beach

One of the best urban beaches in Spain and Europe. Las Canteras is ideal for both relaxation and sport, as it has a strip of natural reef that makes it a perfect place for swimming and snorkelling. It is a kilometre-long beach, ideal for a stroll at sunset.

🎼 Auditorium of Alfredo Kraus

If you like music, this auditorium is one of the most important concert venues in the city. Moreover, the building itself is impressive and is located right at the end of Las Canteras Beach.

⛲️ Canary Island Village and Doramas Park

A beautiful corner of the city with traditional Canarian architecture, perfect for soaking up the local atmosphere. In Doramas Park you can enjoy green areas and fountains, and occasionally, there are performances of Canarian folk music.

🪷 Botanic Garden Viera y Clavijo

A little out of the city centre, but well worth the trip. This botanical garden is home to an incredible variety of Canarian flora, many of which are endemic to the Canary Islands. It is ideal for a quiet afternoon surrounded by nature.

🏛 Canarian Museum

If you are interested in history, this museum is the ideal place to learn more about the ancient inhabitants of Gran Canaria, the Guanches, and discover their culture and customs.

🍽 The Port Market

A perfect place to enjoy the local gastronomy. You can find food stalls and tapas, from fresh fish to typical Canarian dishes such as papas arrugadas con mojo (wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce).

🏄🏻 Confital Beach

For surf lovers or those looking for a quieter and more natural experience, this beach, wilder than Las Canteras, is ideal. The views of the city from this beach are breathtaking.

🛒 Triana

It is one of the main shopping areas of Las Palmas. Strolling along Calle Mayor de Triana is a delight, with shops, restaurants and historic buildings. Very close to Vegueta, so you can combine a visit to both neighbourhoods.

🏜Surrounding area: Caldera de Bandama

A few kilometres from the city, this volcanic caldera is an excellent place for hiking. From the lookout point you will have breathtaking views of the crater and the surrounding landscape.

💬 Additional tips:

  • Typical food: Be sure to try the papas arrugadas con mojo (wrinkled potatoes with mojo), sancocho (a fish stew) and gofio, which is a fundamental part of Canarian gastronomy.
  • Festivities: If you visit Las Palmas in February, you can enjoy the Carnival, which is one of the most important and colourful in Spain.
  • Transport: The city has a good public transport service, but many of the recommended places are within walking distance of each other, so walking is an excellent way to enjoy the city.
